About us

We are set against the stunning backdrop of the River Great Ouse in St Ives, Cambridgeshire where we have been established since 1955. We are owned by Girlguiding Cambridgeshire West, being run and managed by a volunteer board of trustees. Any profits made are reinvested back into developing The Cabin and its facilities for Girlguiding groups and the local community.

Our history

In May 1955, an application was approved by the Borough of St Ives for the erection of a building to be used as a 'Head Quarters of the Girl Guides Association in St Ives'. On 5th May 1956, the opening ceremony was held with a brownie pack and two guide companies.

In 1981, we had our 25th birthday, with many Girlguides from the photograph below in attendance. At this time Girlguiding in St Ives had risen to a staggering 300 Brownies, Guides and Rangers across 12 units throughout the town. At various times during our history, there has been some doubt over the future of the Cabin, especially as the surrounding areas were redeveloped. However the need to support, encourage and develop the youth in this safe, central location has so for always kept us from closure or relocation.

Today we have Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Trefoil Guild groups that meet regularly in the Cabin. If you would like your daughter to attend one of these groups or you would be interested in volunteering, please click here to register your interest.
