Huron Day of Service 2017

Friday 12th May, saw an amazing transformation happen in our little corner of St Ives. As part of their Day of Service, Pope Woodhead, a local company based in St Ives donated a day of their time (plus a significant amount of money) to decorating and improving the St Ives Division Headquarters. The day formed part of a worldwide Day of Service organised by Huron (their parent company). Last year Huron worked with over 86 organisations in 55 locations around the world, all on the same day.

The project came about thanks to Rosie Greatrex, a local guider who works at Pope Woodhead and nominated The Cabin for the project. As well as repainting the

outside of the whole building, the team also painted a large amount of the inside and completely refurbished the stage area, making it a much more attractive and dramatic place for the girls to give performances! The team from Pope Woodhead worked incredibly hard all day and completed a staggering amount of work.

During the day it was a great opportunity to promote the work of Girlguiding with those volunteering and also with the many members of the public who stopped by to see what was going on.

It wasn’t just the Pope Woodhead team that worked hard to enable this great transformation. Preparing for the Day of Service was a mammoth task that included: removing storage and shelving, and replacing everything afterwards. This took a great amount of time and effort for which local Guiders (plus additional family members) gave a great amount of their time.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to make this day a success. From the Guiders who helped to move equipment to the members of St Ives Trefoil Guild who kept the team suitably refreshed with tea and cake on the Work Day. Of course, special thanks go to the team from Pope Woodhead for all their time and effort and the generosity of Huron for financing these amazing renovations. These works will have a significant impact for years to come, both for the groups using The Cabin and our appearance to the general public.
